It's almost Easter :)

So, I found this cross/wicker trunk in my pastor's office, who has the strangest vintage gadgets in her office. She's a bit of a hipster pastor, so she has some really cool stuff. This photo is very obviously of a crucifix and after printing, it was sepia toned to give an antiqued look.

this child is only 13...my goodness.

This is a photo of my younger sister, Afton, who is merely 13 years old. The girl looks like she could be the same age as me, and the older we get, people say that we're twins. This picture was taken beside a large rock in a cow pasture near where we live, and it was part of a series of photos that I took of all three of my sisters (and had a friend do a few of all of us and myself) for a birthday present for my mom. The photos were matted with a 5 opening window mat, and the finished product lives on our piano at home!

Twinkle Toes

This photo is taken from the hands and feet assignment in my photo one class. I was exceptionally pressed for time to take this roll and ended up having to take it at approximately 4 o'clock in the afternoon in mid-December....by that time of day, sunlight is running out and fast! In my back yard we have a little sandbox for my younger sister to play in. I slipped off my shoes and wiggled my toes in the sand. Considering my procrastination, here is what I think to be a pretty good print...it might even make my strange toes appear normal...I can dream, right?

Leading Trees

For this print, photoshop was my friend. The contrast was rough, there were several spots to be cleaned, and an awkward bit of trunk in the upper left corner (as you can see, photoshop does wonders!). This print is centered on the leading lines technique, but it also has good depth of field. I really like the way the trunk curves to the left and then the branches stretch into the right half of the photo; I'm pleased with this composition.

Espresso Yourself

Send me to work with my manual camera and work won't be done, but lovely photography will be taken. I love this picture, if I do say so myself. It shows good contrast, leading lines, as well as depth of field--perhaps even a bit of shutter speed capture with the dripping espresso. Just a fun fact, this was slightly complicated to get just right as I was the barista making this particular shot. So, I had to get everything ready to pull the shot and then focus the image, then push the button to start the drip, line everything up, get the picture, and stop the shot without ruining it. It was a little on the intense side as far was hand coordination goes. But, nonetheless, the timing was right and voila!

Frolicking Downtown

What better use of time than frolicking downtown? One of my favorite attributes of the Charlottesville are is the downtown pedestrian mall. The strip of shops and restaurants possesses a unique quality of architecture and plenty of neat angles to be capture. Thus, this photo was an easy find! I'm a fan of the ripple roof trim on this particular store, and if it were in color, the vibrant shades of the discovery museum would only add to the print. I will comment on the lighting as I do like the way it turned out. When taking this photo, the weather that day was quite gloomy, and I wasn't sure how my pictures would come out. But, low and behold, the sun began to show itself about halfway into the roll, and I lucked out with several prints like this one.

Carlos and Crosscountry

This particular photo was my first attempt at a pan and blur photo when experimenting with shutter speed. I believe I had everything set just right, but I failed to do a complete pan, which made Carlos here a bit out of focus. However, I'm pleased with the blurry background and the successful contrast. The lighting was absolutely beautiful at this valley crosscountry meet.
